Mike is a husband to Jessica and father of Caleb, Brennan, and Elliott who have made his life a joy. He’s a nationally licensed soccer coach and an avid ultrarunner who enjoys mountain trail races with lots of vertical. That last bit might mean he’s slightly crazy as he runs races over the traditional marathon distance, having completed races in the 50k, 50-mile, and 100 mile distances.
Enticed by the thought of spending time at the beach, Michael Smith moved to Savannah in 1997. He co-founded Smith Barid, LLC with his partner, Richard Barid, in November 2006 to focus on estate planning, elder law, and special needs planning. Together, Mike and Richard created the Lifetime Legacy Planning Process to help guide local families through the estate planning process and ensure the best results and the highest standards for every plan.
Mike frequently holds seminars for fellow attorneys and members of the community around the country in an effort to help spread awareness of the importance of proper estate planning and long-term care planning. He is a member of Wealth Counsel, ElderCounsel, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, National Care Planning Council, Savannah Estate Planning Council, the Greater Savannah Coalition on the Aging (past-president), the State Bar of Georgia, the Savannah Bar Association, and the Savannah Sports Council (past-president).
